Fri, 16 Dec 2005 13:43:33 End of year work overview Again some talk about my work. I always thought talk about someone's work was really boring, but talking about your own work is actually quite fun. Furthermore i think my work is a bit special. Did i mention i got rehired again. Most of you know that about now i guess. Did i mention the girls i worked with when i got rehired are already fired? Confused? Just let me give you a nice soap-opera end of year overview of the hire-fire history at my work since i started working: < ... > eleven comments

Wed, 14 Dec 2005 06:05:28 Lisp on the move: the lisp gardeners project O.k., the Reddit affair hasn't exactly been that good for the promotion of lisp to the outside world; high on the Reddit list today was a link to yet another negative article on the subject, this time by an O'Reilly editor. BUT internally it seems to have been a catalyst for positive change: Opposed to popular belief there are actually still people that get into lisp and like it but in concurrence with popular belief there are quite some things about Common Lisp that need improvement. In the Lisp newsgroup the self-described newbie Brad Beveridge came up with the plan to tie the newbies to the lisp grunt work in a similar fasion to the linux janitors project. < ... > twenty comments

Mon, 12 Dec 2005 14:54:13 Technical plans I did a bit of looking around and came up with a combination of stuff i want to put on the server. Some things because they look practical and some because they sound very cool. The server is FreeBSD and I wanted to use SBCL as implementation but you know... no multithreading, so i'll go for CMUCL. As web framework i chose Uncommon Web. The idea of continuations seems so cool to me that any objections evaporate. I heard somebody say it's a bit to complicated for newbies to tackle, after which he revealed he himself learned lisp while learning UCW. Wrong tactics i would say. Now i see it as a challenge all of a sudden. Damn him. < ... > zero comments

Sat, 10 Dec 2005 09:02:34 intro Yes, another blog. Sorry for that. But i read a couple of negative articles concerning Lisp and then came the Reddit setback and i thought: "Damnit, it's time to fight back." Some guys i know have started a musician-friendly record label focussed on internet and i helped them a bit with their site, made in php. In the ensuing months they had quite some succes with their site and i discovered the wonders of Lisp. Now they want to add some features and i want to do them in my newly adopted language. < ... > four comments

Fri, 25 Nov 2005 16:15:17 R.I.P. This is a black day for sidetalking. Slashdot reports that Nokia has admitted the N-gage was a faillure and the mobile phone giant will not develop the platform further... Whatever that means. My treasured N-gage... Dear N-gage. Never was one of the technologies treasured by me so mocked as you. Never was one so misunderstood... or unpractical. Well at least you made your mark on the world. And you will live on in the hearts of all sidetalkers. < ... > one comment

Fri, 18 Nov 2005 07:11:55 M.I.A. My friends Alex and Fleur were gonna come over from Holland, yesterday evening. I was gonna get him with a Swedish friend of mine, Axell. Axell's own car broke down the day before that, due to a broken wheel-axel or lager or something. On the front... He was lucky that he was just parking his car and it didn't happen on the freeway. At freeway speed his car would probably have spiralled out of control and he would have suffered a horrible death. That experience caused him to be a bit worried when the backside of his mother's car made funny sounds and wobbles on the way to the airport... < ... > one comment

Fri, 28 Oct 2005 06:40:16 flu I've been struggeling with a particularly persistent cold since i got back from Holland over a month ago. My adopted hometown here in Sweden, Eskilstuna also had some problems in this area last week. I didn't know it at the time but my mother called from Portugal because she had seen the news on the Dutch tv. Finally Eskilstuna got the international attention it deserves. A rich past, a vibrating present. I ammongst many wondered why the world didn't catch on to the unique qualities of Eskilstuna sooner. But now i also knew the news: bird flu < ... > one comment

Fri, 28 Oct 2005 04:33:24 sleep We're going to grllfrnds fathers wife this evening, cause it's her birthday, but i have to get up early next morning. When could we come? Half past six. "Ok, i said." Even though i wanted to go to bed at five. Grrlfrnd talked it over with her a bit later: "...but he wants to go to bed at five". "At five? Oh i'm sorry i thought he would go to bed at eight. At what time does he have to get up?" "One" "What? Does he sleep eight hours? Whaaaaaaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha." < ... > seven comments

Sat, 10 Sep 2005 09:26:29 Bittersweet stories from eskilstuna: part two A friend of me and my grrlfrnd went to sign his retirement papers last week. I don't really know the process of signing retirement papers, and i heard this story from grllfrnd but it involves a lot of almost-pensioners to go to the factory where they work and let them sign the papers as one after the other is summoned into the office where the signing is taking place. < ... > seventeen comments

Sat, 27 Aug 2005 17:00:54 lambda Got it yesterday from the good people at Amazon, and i've already got a headache. Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming: Case Studies in Common Lisp. Damn you have to have quite some confidence in yourself to come up with a title like that. And he has. look at this page, and then scroll down to the bottom. Mr pretty. Yes Google's director of search quality will be my yoda for the next couple of months. No social life for me, thank you very much. Give me mr ai and his lithhp book. Sat, 27 Aug 2005 16:26:45 well slap me Europe and call me eightties Well what have i hanging on my bike???!?!?!?! (dutch expression) For the last month i have been terrorised by this mobile phone commercial about some hairpermed eightties rockers thrashing various street objects and harrassing this guy who clearly didnt do anything wrong while screaming "breaking the chains, BREAKING THE CHAINS!!!!". The guy was just minding his buisiness walking the street, and rightly so this man got quite fed up with the asocial behaviour. So he bought their videoclip for his mobile phone, and the permed guys were never heard of again. < ... > zero comments

Sat, 13 Aug 2005 13:48:04 no house In the evening of the sixth of august i was dead tired; emotionally drained. A week later it is still hard to think about that day without feeling the tears burning at the back of my eyes. It was the day a great hope died in me, it was the day i knew i would not live in a lovely Swedish red cabin. < ... > zero comments

Fri, 05 Aug 2005 12:58:49 this house! We just looked again at the murderously cute swedish cabin, and we are gonna given the owners an ultimatum!! Thu, 04 Aug 2005 14:31:21 what house!? Strange times. Early in some morning i find myself in the studentroom of a metal/grunge type of guy. Two more guys are present and a girl and me. She has fallen asleep long ago although metal/grunge is hammering on her eardrum on louder than loud level, maybe because it has hammered on for some hours already. The neighbours don't complain either which is a bit strange considering it has gone on for hours. The guys are singing along on the top of their longs. Neighbours and girl are quite fine with this also. I don't always sing along cause 1. i don't know all the songs 2. i'm a bit shy. On the other side of town my girlfriend is going to bed. We went out together but somewhere along the line the group split up in girls and boys groups. While we were doing male-accepted karaoke, she was doing female-accepted karaoke (you know with white text turning red and all) untill she got to tired. < ... > zero comments

Mon, 25 Jul 2005 10:08:46 Hungerstrike for the Cuban five How many times haven't i seen or typed the sentence above in this exact or similar form in this or similar languages. This is because i am in the middle of a hungerstrike. Not mine, i am eating just fine. No but i help a bit on the side. Grllfrnds uncle is the masterbrain of this operation and hungerstriker at that. He does not hungerstrike alone; he hungerstrikes with a couple of other people. They mostly sit/ly/stand before or in a tent just on the other side of the fence that seperates a park from the parental home of uncle. < ... > seventeen comments

Wed, 20 Jul 2005 16:58:00 For a nordic future The streets of Eskilstuna are full of these kinds of pictures lately. Thu, 02 Jun 2005 07:04:44 Dutch no damn, that's irritating. I just watched a stuttering dutch news broadcast on the internet devoted to the dutch no to Europa. We are moving to fast for them. The people don't know why they should be for.. < ... > eight comments

Not in the morning, but at the time normal people have their dinner. Normally I work ten days straight and have four days off before the new cycle of ten. Today i don't have to work because it's easter but i got out of bed at four, because tomorrow i have to work at three and i will get up at two. Got to maintain my rhythm. I can still remember the days that on a saturday i went to bed at six in the morning. < ... > three comments

I got in trough the back door. I got it in my tiny claws and i will hide it somewhere where no-one will see. But i'll doubt that any swedish person will have it. Mon, 07 Mar 2005 18:41:36 learning Spanish The weekend before last weekend i was present at a meeting where the Cuban ambassador of Sweden spoke. Or is it the Swedish ambassador of Cuba? It's the guy from Cuba anyway, who wants to promote his country in Sweden. There are quite some pro Cuba guys and gals in Eskilstuna, and there are a fair amount of South Amarican refugies from the seventies here, and there is a fair bit of pro Cuba action going on here. I guess that's the reason why he paid a visit. < ... > five comments

Thu, 10 Feb 2005 15:44:32 Puppy - bureaucracy: 0 - 1 I don't have to remind the reader that government spells bureaucracy. The gloomy impersonal nature of it, on which u can get no grip, has been the subject of many a story. The most famous of course is, do i really have to remind u, 'the twelve tasks of Asterix'.
