Panther-kitten
"Wolf-pup, wolf-pup! Wolf-pup!" 'Wolf-pup' she cried. A spirit made from atoms and flesh and blood called for me. "Wolf-pup!" I melted and thus became puddle. And this is how it went. Day in, and day out. "Wolf-pup!" and then puddle. A wolf-pup puddle. Much like the cycles of rain and river. < ... >

Fading memories exposed. Too much bleach used.
So people have been begging, clamouring for an update. Screamed they have, with burning tongues. Well ok then. Am sitting in Stuttgart right now. In an airport terminal. Waiting to board a plane to Barcelona. My carbon-footprint is so big that I am afraid it has squashed multiple of the smaller countries. How did it get this far? I dread to know. But I know. I know. But I'm trying my best to squash the memories. But then they explode and are exposed. It's too late. My kindle for a turtle!
I saw fishies! Big fishies, small fishies, round fishies and thin fishies. Them fishies were swimming in the water. Not flapping around on dry land on the tables of fish vendors who hack off their noses when they're still alive (trauma). No. These were fishies swimming in the DEEP BLUE SEA. < ... >

A crack in paradise
It is kinda a weird here in Kuala Lumpur. Weird because it's so normal. Time and space seem to have been stuffed in a big gelatin pudding. When you stick your finger in, things bobble a bit, but if you leave the pudding alone, everything is just kinda suspended in midair. < ... >

Sweating in Malaysia
So made it back to Kathmandu alright. Caught up with friends, doing some part-time job in an air-conditioned building, getting food-poisoning. You know, the usual. The highlight of those weeks was the daily cycle-commuting routine to work. Through the oldish parts of town from Lainchour through Durbar Square and over the bridge. Dodging pedestrians and ramming the occasional bike. But although I sold my heart to Kathmandu and the lovely people within, I masochistically set out for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to do some telecom hacking with my friend Luke for a bit. < ... >

A modern family
First look at photo... This is how I sit here every night, in my Darjeeling hostel-room. Staring out into the black of night like a seaman's wife; a widow of the sea. Hoping to catch a glimpse of my coveted cdma telephone internet network. A blinking green light means a signal. A continuous green light means a connection. But my signal is always red.. < ... >

Yea, so I'm lying in my bed, right. And I'm kinda contemplating. Got nothing to do really. It's a loadshedding free-zone over here. And it's loadshedding freezing. Once again I forgot to ask extra blankets. I'm afraid that when I breath upwards my breath will freeze and will attack me from above as ice shards; which is ridiculous of course. The cold has surpassed my gloomiest predictions. All my blankets and all my clothes can't make me warm again. < ... >

Custom activity-update howto
After a discussion on #sugar, I noticed that setting up a custom update-mechanism for Activities/XO bundles on XO's is a bit of a lost art. I had to dig through the Sugar code a bit to get a clear understanding. I've updated the laptop.org wiki (see

Cheers to relief-aid
Since I'm living here all by myself in my beautiful three-storey Bagdol abode, I've been looking around for a new place lately. Preferably with some other people, cause I don't really like to live alone. Yesterday I went to check out an apartment very close to my work. I would/will (I dunno yet) be living with two Australian girls from the Hash and so we talked a little the evening I was there. One of them is involved with the flooding that happened some months ago in the east of Nepal. Well, you might not have suspected it from my blogposts of late, but I AM actually here in Nepal to work. Since I don't read much on the net about the inner workings of the XO deployments, I thought it would be nice to spend some brainpower and time on our rapidly expanding deployment-NGO-startup. CLtl2 review
A few weeks ago i finished Common Lisp: The Language, Second Edition, by Guy L. Steele Jr.. It was one of the best books i have read in a while. I guess it's because i like reading VCR manuals, legal disclaimers and the like. Well, CLtl2 is the alpha and the omega of manuals. I really liked it. Not just because of its length (a thousand pages); there are manuals to be found that are a lot stiffer. But also because Steele has a very fluid writing style, the book is full of neat behind the scenes factoids and the second edition writings are clearly seperated from those of the first edition by a vertical line in the left margin. This makes for NEVER (almost) a boring moment. < ... >

Damned icy Swedish roads
I broke my leg. Boring. I was biking from my work to home when i made a turn. I know, stupid maneuver. While falling my foot got caught somehow between ground and bike on the wrong side of my south-west axis seen from the crown of my head. The weight of the bike forced my foot backwards. I saw it happening. My foot was turned 180 degrees from it's rest position, relative to my leg. I gave a scream of irritation because i knew my snowboarding plans were over. As i was wondering if it would stay in that position it swirved back when it got some breathing space. Then it just layed there, looking slightly guilty. I could not help but hope that was the end of it and i could get on my bike. It was not to be. As i moved my leg i noticed my foot wanted to stay behind. Lisp on the move: the lisp gardeners project
O.k., the Reddit affair hasn't exactly been that good for the promotion of lisp to the outside world; high on the Reddit list today was a link to yet another negative article on the subject, this time by an O'Reilly editor. BUT internally it seems to have been a catalyst for positive change: Opposed to popular belief there are actually still people that get into lisp and like it but in concurrence with popular belief there are quite some things about Common Lisp that need improvement. In the Lisp newsgroup the self-described newbie Brad Beveridge came up with the

Bittersweet stories from eskilstuna: part two
A friend of me and my grrlfrnd went to sign his retirement papers last week. I don't really know the process of signing retirement papers, and i heard this story from grllfrnd but it involves a lot of almost-pensioners to go to the factory where they work and let them sign the papers as one after the other is summoned into the office where the signing is taking place. < ... >

Bittersweet stories from eskilstuna: part one
Grrlfrnd and me just completed a successful moving operation to an apartment a block from our old house. I was assigned a cleanup operation: returning the keys to one of those carts that you hang behind your car to the appropriate institution. < ... >

Got it yesterday from the good people at Amazon, and i've already got a headache. Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming: Case Studies in Common Lisp. Damn you have to have quite some confidence in yourself to come up with a title like that. And he has. look at
this page, and then scroll down to the bottom. Mr pretty. Yes Google's director of search quality will be my yoda for the next couple of months. No social life for me, thank you very much. Give me mr ai and his lithhp book. The lord didn't give us closures, CLOS, full blown macro's and domain specific languages. John McCarthy
did. Well... with some help of his army anyway. Go fish Agol derivatives!! < ... >

well slap me Europe and call me eightties
Well what have i hanging on my bike???!?!?!?! (dutch expression) For the last month i have been terrorised by this mobile phone commercial about some hairpermed eightties rockers thrashing various street objects and harrassing this guy who clearly didnt do anything wrong while screaming "breaking the chains, BREAKING THE CHAINS!!!!". The guy was just minding his buisiness walking the street, and rightly so this man got quite fed up with the asocial behaviour. So he bought their videoclip for his mobile phone, and the permed guys were never heard of again. < ... >

no house
In the evening of the sixth of august i was dead tired; emotionally drained. A week later it is still hard to think about that day without feeling the tears burning at the back of my eyes. It was the day a great hope died in me, it was the day i knew i would not live in a lovely Swedish red cabin. < ... >

this house!
We just looked again at the murderously cute swedish cabin, and we are gonna given the owners an ultimatum!! Either they drop the price by 500 kroner on their already ridiculous low offer of 3500 kr (+- 350 eur) or they can move along!! So there! See who has the last laugh now!! < ... >

what house!?
Strange times. Early in some morning i find myself in the studentroom of a metal/grunge type of guy. Two more guys are present and a girl and me. She has fallen asleep long ago although metal/grunge is hammering on her eardrum on louder than loud level, maybe because it has hammered on for some hours already. The neighbours don't complain either which is a bit strange considering it has gone on for hours. The guys are singing along on the top of their longs. Neighbours and girl are quite fine with this also. I don't always sing along cause 1. i don't know all the songs 2. i'm a bit shy. On the other side of town my girlfriend is going to bed. We went out together but somewhere along the line the group split up in girls and boys groups. While we were doing male-accepted karaoke, she was doing female-accepted karaoke (you know with white text turning red and all) untill she got to tired. < ... >

Hungerstrike for the Cuban five
How many times haven't i seen or typed the sentence above in this exact or similar form in this or similar languages. This is because i am in the middle of a hungerstrike. Not mine, i am eating just fine. No but i help a bit on the side. Grllfrnds uncle is the masterbrain of this operation and hungerstriker at that. He does not hungerstrike alone; he hungerstrikes with a couple of other people. They mostly sit/ly/stand before or in a tent just on the other side of the fence that seperates a park from the parental home of uncle. < ... >

For a nordic future
The streets of Eskilstuna are full of these kinds of pictures lately. Jaded puppy has once again moved from his beloved Sweden, and resides for the moment in misty Seoul. It's actually quite like Sweden but the people talk funny and they are very weird. Dutch no
damn, that's irritating. I just watched a stuttering dutch news broadcast on the internet devoted to the dutch no to Europa. There our all-knowing leaders were clear about why the Dutch voted against: no trust in politics. The politicians stand to far from the people. The people are not ready yet for Europe. We are moving to fast for them. The people don't know why they should be for.. < ... >

Where's my life
So now i lost my life, and i have to find a new one. Going out in the night to, lets say, a pub has as of now become a no-no Nowadays i go to bed at seven. Not in the morning, but at the time normal people have their dinner. Normally I work ten days straight and have four days off before the new cycle of ten. Today i don't have to work because it's easter but i got out of bed at four, because tomorrow i have to work at three and i will get up at two. Got to maintain my rhythm. I can still remember the days that on a saturday i went to bed at six in the morning. < ... >

Hail to the thief
Bompalibompa ........ I stole a job in eskilstuna. Ssttt don't tell it's a secret. no it;s not a secret. but i sneeked it in.reeled it in. I got in trough the back door. I got it in my tiny claws and i will hide it somewhere where no-one will see. But i'll doubt that any swedish person will have it. Still i have to be wary of the other immigrants. They hunt too at night. Hunt to kill. But i will not let go so easily of my little job. < ... >

learning Spanish
The weekend before last weekend i was present at a meeting where the Cuban ambassador of Sweden spoke. Or is it the Swedish ambassador of Cuba? It's the guy from Cuba anyway, who wants to promote his country in Sweden. There are quite some pro Cuba guys and gals in Eskilstuna, and there are a fair amount of South Amarican refugies from the seventies here, and there is a fair bit of pro Cuba action going on here. I guess that's the reason why he paid a visit. < ... >

Puppy - bureaucracy: 0 - 1
I don't have to remind the reader that government spells bureaucracy. The gloomy impersonal nature of it, on which u can get no grip, has been the subject of many a story. The most famous of course is, do i really have to remind u, 'the twelve tasks of Asterix'. In which one of his tasks in order to become a god is to get permit number A38. Well, i saw it as a kid and little did i know it is actually harder to accomplish stuff in Sweden. < ... >

Anal-sex
Yet another interesting day has passed in Sweden-land. Some doggie trouble involving the title of this post. Doggie Sprakkel is a bit sick u see. No, not in that sense. She has some kind of claw disease. So we have to give her medicine. This means i sort of hug her so she can't move an inch, while grrlfrnd forces her mouth open and puts a tablet deep down her throat. < ... >
